North American Dreaming: Salamanders Sunning

William Burkholder has colourful memories of a sunny walking day.

Salamanders sunning, brilliant orange,
dotting the path and forest floor.
Salamanders sunning, seven mile trail
and smoke tower rest,
amongst the blessings of the Allegheny.

Salamanders sunning,
Spring water respite
upon blanketed moss,
the nostrils fill with aroma
of wooded path and mulched leaf.

Salamanders sunning,
amongst the old men of the forest,
Sister sunlight peeking through the canopy,
bidding me hello from time to time.

Salamanders sunning, brilliant orange,
colorful memory never wanes.
