A Lovely Shade Of Blue: Things You Can Do To Care For Creation

Claire George points to practical ways in which we can bring aid to our planet.

Across Europe 160 million pigs are raised for meat and many live in unacceptable conditions. Do you feel comfortable eating an animal that has suffered? The RSPCA is running a campaign to improve life for our piggy friends. Go to the RSPCA website to watch a video about the mistreatment of pigs and to find out how you can make a difference. http://www.rspca.org.uk/getinvolved/campaigns/thinkpig

And leave a legacy for the future. We've all had those moments. You're working indoors and a bird settles on the window ledge outside. You marvel at its intelligent little eyes and the colour of its feathers. You tell other people in the room to look out the window. Its quick bodied movements brighten up your day. What if there were no birds for your grandchildren's grandchildren to admire? It's a depressing thought isn't it? You can make a difference by leaving a legacy to the RSPB. Visit the RSPB website to learn more. http://www.rspb.org.uk/supporting/leavealegacy/

Factory farming is nasty for animals and bad for us. Instead of eating what grows in the British countryside, factory farmed animals consume massive amounts of feed. A key ingredient of the feed is soy, most of which comes from large plantations in South America. Rain forest is cleared to make way for those plantations, leading to loss of wildlife habitats and increased CO2 emissions. It's a huge problem and hard to see how folk in Cowley can make a difference. Yet there are things we can do. Go to the Friends of the Earth website for more information. http://www.foe.co.uk/what_we_do/fix_food_chain_20576.html
