North American Dreaming: A Talented Mind

...He made a shotgun rendering, of a talented mind...

So begins William Burkholder’s poem which marks our violent age.

He made a shotgun rendering, of a talented mind,
Crimson tinted, grey matter, speckling the walls.

Lamentations to you, for you, modern bard of this age.
New pictures painted,
are no longer within your reach,

You have moved to higher ground,
with which to keep,
a perseverant eye,
that you did not see,
before the trigger was pulled.
