Feather's Miscellany: Creation’s Eyes

...Lord, give us means to raise our eyes
to nobler heights, and see you care,,,

John Waddington-Feather pleads for a clearer vision with which to recognise true beauty.

What grace you give us, blessed Lord,
to see the beauty you create,
the wonder of the world around
which primes our senses inchoate.

But how you must despair, O Lord,
to watch us wallow in the mire
of cheap ambition, wealth and greed,
not set our sights on matters higher.

To see men worship golden calves
in City, screen and playing field;
know nothing of the Christ our Lord,
but to their baser instincts yield.

Lord, give us means to raise our eyes
to nobler heights, and see you care;
that we may glorify your name
and come to know you as you are.

That we may see such beauty here
around us daily in our lives;
enough to make us praise you, Lord,
for making us Creation’s eyes.
