Feather's Miscellany: A Maiden Meek

John Waddington-Feather presents a poem/hymn which was set to music by David Grundy.

A maiden meek a mother was,
whose Son redeemed mankind;
no king was he or potentate,
nor dwelling could she find

to give her Son a royal birth,
though he was King of kings,
who came unheralded by men,
the One redemption brings

to everyone throughout the world,
all-swaddled in a stall,
his mother Mary watching o’er
the Saviour of us all.

She bore the Son who bore our sins
upon the cruel cross;
she, Blessed Virgin, watched him die
and suffer for our loss.

O, blessed mother, maiden fair,
the Spirit’s chosen one,
well may we sing your praises now
who bore God’s only Son.
