Poetry Pleases: the stranger

Marianne Hall writes about a stranger who set a heart on fire.

i met him in the twilight of my years.
he came from nowhere, a stranger
with a smile that reached out to me,
enveloped me, lifted me.

i sensed his watchfulness
and wondered,
i sensed his loneliness and want.
that stranger made me lose control,
caused turmoil in my soul.

sleepless nights and restless hours,
strange delusions, wistful thoughts,
pent-up feelings like windswept flowers
brought chaos and desire.

who is this stranger in my life?
hes set my heart afire.
his warmth and love reach out to me.
i love him with an urgency
and hunger for him constantly.
