Open Features: Wondrous Moments

"I hope when we catch a glimpse of one of Godís wonders we stop and accept the offering and give ourselves up to the moment and the release that is there for each of us,'' writes Ellie Braun-Haley from Western Canada.

When spring arrives in my part of the country, one can never be certain if it is really here. Our neighbors were watering their lawn on a warm spring day and accidently left the sprinkler running all night.

The temperature dropped and in the night a magnificent ice lawn was created. Long icicles and inspiring excellent swirls transformed the tree and bushes into wonderful ice sculptures. The scene was glorious and neighbors paused to take it in! I was so excited. My plans for the day halted and I ran for my camera.

An accident and nature combined and we all had to pause to see the splendor. God prepares similar scenes for us constantly
When he does and I stop to notice his creations something quite magnificent occurs; I feel the easing of stress. It is a type of healing.

Rainbows with their color and magic do the same thing for me and I always stop to just drink in the beauty.

A full moon shining across freshly fallen snow provides similar moments. I become caught up in the moment, breathing in the beauty that God has laid before me. I also become aware of the fog caused as my warm breath unites with the cold winter air and like a child discovering for the first time I blow out again and again, charmed by the experience, as if it is something new. Yet it is unchanging and this has always happened. But what has changed is me. In that moment I leave behind the tension and pressures of life to take pleasure in nature, something of God. Everything around me feels more alive, especially the landscape

The colors of autumn kindle similar reactions. A walk in the crisp fallen leaves seems to spark something in me and once again I can leave worries and distress in the same way the leaves abandon the trees. I feel as though I can become as footloose as the leaves and dance to and fro with the spell I am suddenly under, just as leaves whirl through the autumn winds newly released to investigate every corner, every streetlamp. A walk in the leaves is invigorating and energizing, yet there is a peacefulness that is beyond my understanding.

We work and we rush and God knows the pitfalls of our lives, those things that press us onto never ending treadmills. I am sure He prepares many wonders for us regularly, all to hold us spellbound, while our bodies have moments in which to recuperate and heal. I hope when we catch a glimpse of one of Godís wonders we stop and accept the offering and give ourselves up to the moment and the release that is there for each of us.

May your day be filled with wondrous moments, moments when you release the stress and allow yourself to ďbeĒ in the moment.
