A Fistful Of Stars: A Bridge To Whom?
Hariharan Balakrishnan asks himself the question which occurs to every imaginative writer.
Tap, tap, tap
Like a woodpecker tapping
At mahogany, teak, cedar or birch
Thinking not of time
I keep tapping these words here
On the keyboard in front of me
Without thinking, without reason
Pecking away - relentless
A habit in me that grew with time
To tap and play with words
Words that pour out on their own
A certain kind of seventh sense
Does it make me a woodpecker
Making holes on standing reason?
A giver of life, a source of shade
Or have I become a machine-man?
Rama's squirrel went and came
Countless times and then lay still
Pebbles it took to build a bridge
But what is the bridge I build?
A bridge to whom?
A bridge for what?
And why?
