Here Comes Treble: Utter Luxury
"We all deserve times of rest and relaxation, free of guilt, filled with escape from our everyday pressures,'' writes columnist and musician Isabel Bradley.
My life is filled with e-mailing, writing, compiling newsletters, updating data-bases, practising my flute, rehearsing for performances, going to concerts, sweating at gym, cooking, entertaining, enjoying the company of family and friends and occasionally cleaning and tidying.
This weekend, I gave myself time off.
Guilty Pleasures
Oh, what luxury!
Kick back in the La-Z-Boy,
Pick up a book,
Head into adventure,
Romance,
Joy, grief, terror –
And occasional, glorious sex!
The heroes –
Handsome and brave,
And heroines –
Beautiful and daring,
Save the day.
Through thick and thin,
They triumph
Against villains,
Male and female,
Evil, dark-minded,
Hell-bent on destruction of
People and places.
Look up, pause,
Pulse pounding,
Breath hitching –
Goodness, it’s lunch-time.
Break for a snack,
Consider:
What should I be doing?
Work, running the orchestra,
Playing my flute?
The heck with that –
This book must be finished.
Back to my chair,
My book.
I bury myself in
Words,
In action, in lives
Brought, by clever authors,
To vivid life
In my mind.
It was a glorious weekend. I thought of nothing but a roaring thriller by Tami Hoag, followed by a marvellous thriller-romance by Nora Roberts.
We all deserve times of rest and relaxation, free of guilt, filled with escape from our everyday pressures.
Until next time…. ‘here comes Treble!’
