Bonzer Words!: Down Dorset Way

Brian Leaver is humbled by time on a Dorset beach.

I listened to shingle’s desolate sigh
for a time before its random mix
of Pliocene, Miocene
with bygone coccolith.
They chafed to tell of Paleocene,
ammonite in tropic green,
where, by chance, I placed my feet.
Humbled now, my paltry years
by a pebble’s span
to dash my deep conceit.
