Feather's Miscellany: Old Coppice Chorus

John Waddington-Feather's poem is a harbinger of Spring.

The sun brings in the Spring
and newly leafs the wood;
pigeons and doves croat
full-throated on the bough;
a wren nests next the house,
trilling out his heart;
blackbirds and thrushes flute
their garden-land;
and adding his two-note chorus-call
a cuckoo flies
across the Lyth.

Man and his world might be
a million miles away;
yet the same Spirit breathes
life into us all
right across the boundless universe.
