Poetry Pleases: The Mood Of May

Fragrant honeysuckle blossom leads William Ruleman to deeper thoughts beyond the mere material.

Honeysuckle’s in bloom; the air
Is laden with its fragrance, the mood
Of May being sweet yet stirred to brood
On specters of past springs here and there
That pierce the merely material,
Make ego’s urgings seem for naught
And futile, all the wars it’s fought,
And one’s own body, ethereal.
